Really? So it's not Windows executables running under something like Wine?
Feral usually makes their stuff truly native, so I'd expect this to be.
[doublepost=1475704237][/doublepost]This game looks really cool. I loved the movie. Maybe this will be my first video game purchase in 2 years.

Isn't there only one game that uses Metal? (World of Warcraft)

Isn't it the case that if developers don't use Metal, then there's at least a 30% drop in performance using OpenGL? I may be off on some of this, but if not then what's the point?

Feral also announced that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will use Metal, which is awesome. But yea, I don't understand why more developers aren't embracing this feature more.

Afraid that's not true; Mad Max on Windows supports AMD 7870, but 7xxx series cards are not supported on OS X.
Since there never were Macs with 7xxx series GPUs (you could flash them, though), I guess it's more a case of "we hadn't any Macs with these to test it on, so you're on your own".

However, it's probably rather a case in point that the system requirements are not due to Metal, since this would work on AMD 7xxx GPUs.

Doesn't 2GB of VRAM pretty much disqualify most Macs?

Yeah, almost feels like they're targeting the Hackintosh community with system requirements. o_O Or the select few that has a Mac Pro tower with a modern graphics card. Or the 11 people in the world that has the Mac Pro made by the Empire in Star Wars. :)

All riMacs and rMBPs (with dedicated GPUs) since late 2013 (and some earlier models) have 2 GB VRAM.
Doesn't that pretty much disqualify most Macs? Mac Mini, MacBook, MacBook Air 11" and 13", MacBook Pro 13", MacBook Pro 15" base model, iMac 21.5"? And not all retina iMacs have dedicated graphics. As a matter of fact, all 4K iMacs, which are considered a retina resolution, have Intel Iris 6200. And like you said, the high-end machines have only had 2GB of VRAM for a couple years now, so all old machines are also out of luck.

So to recap, they're targeting high-end 5K iMac, Retina MacBook Pro and Mac Pro users with a computer newer than a couple years old. I have no idea why a developer would take the time to port a game that has requirements this high to macOS. Especially one like this, which doesn't have broad consumer appeal or an established legacy. And especially to a platform where the best selling machines (MacBook Air) are all running integrated graphics. Maybe they're hoping a super upgrade cycle will happen soon when Apple finally upgrades their Mac lineup. But that just doesn't happen with the Mac like it does with the iPhone. There's also the risk of Apple moving to ARM, which might require some work to port.

i will play absolutely fine in my hackintosh. i can't stand any version of windows but i build a hackintosh because i can put a water cooler and put 64 gigs of ram and customized my system the way i wanted, i like mac computers but i also like to able costumize my system that's why i build a hackintosh, many people complaint and say negative stuff about hackintosh but my system is full vanilla and all of my devices are natively supported by mac, so as long as you know what you doing and you know what to buy then you be all right. i play that game in windows but i erased the hard drive because i can't even see windows boot desktop , it just get me mad, yes i know is a philological problem but i don't get that feeling from mac os, maybe now i will be able to finish that game because i will play it win sierra, feral is the best
