So it's not booting into OS 9 natively? I was under the assumption it was going to be similar to using Windows with bootcamp, not running in an emulation.

Is the performance at least better than it was when using Rosetta? That was almost unbearable on my '06 CD MacBook.

Yes, because it has a genuine PPC processor in it, it isn't emulation. Also just stick 2 HDDs in it, put OS 9 on 1 and Leopard on the other. Best of both worlds.

The 20" iMac cannot boot OS9. But OP could partition and have both Leopard and Tiger (for Classic) on the same drive.

I'm looking to purchase a G4 Quicksilver but I just haven't found THE one I want yet.

I do have a few questions. Currently there are two different models posted on CL, both have the highest single processor speeds for their model. Would I be missing out on much if I hold off for a Dual Processor?

Also, I've been wanting one that can boot into OS 9. According to Wikipedia, on the maximum OS, it has these as Leopard but the rest of the models, including DP, as Tiger and OS 9. Is the running of OS 9 because of hardware or because Tiger still allows Classic? If I do end up going with Leopard on these am I giving up the chance of using OS 9?

Why would you still keep such ancient technology around? To keep a memento from the past... the good old times... simpler days...

Just something to play around with. I never owned a PPC and it'll be nice to revisit some of the older games.

Also there's lots of people upset whenever Apple strips support of legacy software. Hopefully when I'm done with it I'll be able to make some money.

Diablo II does not require Classic; log into Battle.net and redownload it and you'll get an OS X-compatible version.

That's right, forgot about that. I'll check around a bit and see if there's any reason to keep Classic.

If I do decide to have a small partition for Tiger on my HDD can I add that later on or would it have to be done when doing new installs?

Dual boot

OS 9 and OS X can exist on the same partition without issue. You can install OS X whenever. I suggest for best bug fixes and less problems install updates to 9.2.2 and 10.4.11. They play the best together, it's the newest for both that supports dual boot or classic.

Are you sure?

I don't remember if I've tried but my imac G4 20 came with an OS 9.2.1 disk. I'll see if it will boot to it.
