I'm trying to measure the after/longterm effects of an unlock with blacksnow if any

    1. Will the unlock survive a restore to a vanilla 3.1.2 FW?

    2. Can Apple brick phones with a new update like 3.1.3/3.2...or does DFU mitigate that

    3. Should i need to go in for service, will Apple be able to tell i've unlocked the phone even without any visible signs of JB and if so is it possible to revert to factory status first before going in?

    Thanks in advance

Apple never bricked a phone. Stupid people who upgraded before researching did.

    1. No it won't - you'd have to do it all again.

    2. They can't force you to accept updates. They will, though, issue updates that close the exploits, at some point. This forum is your friend in knowing when it's safe to update. So are http://iphonejtag.blogspot.com/ (Geohot's blog) and http://blog.iphone-dev.org/ (Dev Team blog)

    3. You can restore to new condition and they will not be able to tell

Is there any way to tell the iPhone's unlocked if you don't have another SIM?

Nope, one is blaming Apple for bricking phones against the users wishes; the other is blaming the user for something they and only they had control over.

You can look to see which packages have been installed.

Are you trying to be funny or is that really the only way?

The unlock is not an application. If it works like ultrasn0w you install it using Cydia, for example, so in Cydia you can see the installed packages.

I think a "smart" Apple Genius could quickly figure it out, but at first glance there would be nothing to tell them it was unlocked or jbroken.

I understand how it works. I have it installed but I also have a badge on my Cydia icon that insists that there's an upgrade available for it and I can't get it to go away.

So, without looking in Cydia, is there any indicator on my phone that tells me it's unlocked or do I need to find a T-Mobile SIM?

Is the badge stopping you from checking if the unlock is installed?

If you don't believe the software, you will have to believe the hardware. That means finding a SIM.
