I'm interested in getting MM for college next year, mostly to automatically back-up files that I am working on. The college offers other services (with a whopping 1Gig of storage space!), but they seem clunky, and I imagine MobileMe would be better.

However, I am having a hell of a time finding any mention of automatic backup, here or on Apples site. It's all about email/contacts/cal etc. It would be good enough for me to just have a single folder that backed up automatically on a schedule or whenever prompted. Is this possible?

Also, why is MM only $60 on Amazon, and $100 from the Apple store? This seems very un-Apple to me. Is there some sort of catch that I'm not seeing?

Also, is there any way to get Backup to work when the computer is sleeping? It seems like a simple and critical feature that is missing.

I actually just discovered Backup too, and it's a great concept - I really wish Apple hadn't let it get so outdated. The interface seems a little clunky, and it still references .Mac. I set it to backup several folders containing Pages and Word documents, about 2gb in total, at 3am Sunday mornings. It actually did wake up my computer to do this...but kept uploading files till I cancelled it at 1pm! (my Internet connection isn't that slow, either). It uploaded them in "parts" - when I canceled the upload, it was on part 8, and after doing so all of the previous parts vanished from my iDisk as well. Hmm. I'm still trying to figure this out or find an alternative...I'll let you know if I do!

Was your macbook open but asleep? I'm wondering if there's a difference between asleep and open and asleep and closed. Mine didn't wake up, and started updating the next time I opened it.

    Hmm. . .
