My samsung home theater system I bought form walmart in summer of 2008 was working fine with my ATV and samsung 50" plasma TV bought two months ago new. When i connected the fiber optic toslink table to the ATV and the samsung home theater system, it detects it and i see "D-in" on the system but no sound. When I unhook the fiber optic toslink from the ATV and hook it to my HDTV, it works fine and thus, the ATV produces sound fine too because I have a HDMI cable hooked up to it. Could there be something wrong with my ATV or the samsung home theater system?

Make sure you have:

1. Enabled digital output on your Apple TV
2. Enabled digital input on the specified port on your receiver

My Onkyo requires that I set a particular channel (e.g., VIDEO2) to optical input and not RCA input. There's a menu selection to do so. Your receiver may have something similar.
