I discovered an odd Field Test bug that I thought I'd share. I haven't figured out how to reverse it (other than a restore, which I think would work), so be forewarned.

To enter Field Test mode, pull up the dial pad and type: *3001#12345#* -- then hit CALL.

You'll notice three menu items, but of interest here you'll see that the signal bars turn into the -DB signal information. If you hit the home key it sets back to normal and the signal bars return.

    Enter the glitch.

If, instead of hitting the home key, you reset the phone (by holding the sleep and home keys until it resets) while in Field Test mode, the signal bars appear to be permanently replaced with the -DB signal information, as per the attached screen shot:

Getting that stuck is something I have not experienced myself after performing field tests numerous times on my iPhone. Interesting and kind of cool. If you want something different about your iPhone, this is something small and surely unique you can do easily :). Nice find.

Someone posted in another thread (I'm too lazy to point you to it) that you can tap on the numbers and it will switch back and forth between that and the bars. I don't know if it works though, having not tried it myself, but you could give it a go.

While in field test this works.

Edit: Yes tapping the numbers will return them to bars.

Yes, you can tap the corner to toggle between bars and db. Unfortunately I couldn't figure out a way to stop it from defaulting to db after a reboot. 2.0.2 reset it to bars only when I set up as a new phone (instead of restore).

if you hold down the home button to exit field test, the db info also holds. You can tap it to change between bars and db.
