What's in the building to the right with the Apple logo on it? Temporary Apple store?
Yep, that's the old FAO Schwartz store. May the Schwartz be with you!

It’s really not funny actually. The same housing for 3 years running. That new camera bump, square...thing? Same horrible aesthetic notch?
This release is going to be the worst selling iPhone design since the 5C. I’d put money on it actually. It’s horrible design
Predicttion: Tinted glass on the back of the new iPhones.
eye-catching rainbow film.
I wonder if that’s why they decided to close it down and remodel it?The glass structure is the only thing about the store that is impressive. The inside is less than impressive.
They are stores with rows of tables, displays on the walls and either gray or white walls. They are nothing to write home about.
Maybe this store will have a fondue station. /s
4 years. FAO Schwarz closed later in the summer. It gets a lot of traffic, so I can imagine a bigger store was needed.I wonder if that’s why they decided to close it down and remodel it?
It’s been under construction for a couple years, when did you last see it?
Apple's iconic Fifth Avenue store in New York City has been undergoing renovations since 2017, with Apple having dismantled the glass cube building design that the location is known for.
The Fifth Avenue store, which was relocated nearby during the renovation period, is reopening soon and the well-known glass cube has been reconstructed. To celebrate the launch of the updated flagship location, Apple has covered the cube in an eye-catching rainbow film.
The rainbow cover of the cube obstructs what's going on below, but Apple has been working to double the size of its Fifth Avenue store, which is underground and accessed by elevator.

According to Quartz, a sticker on the outside of the rainbow wrap reads:There's no word yet on when Apple Fifth Avenue will reopen, but with the glass cube back in place and sporting rainbow colors, it could come at any time. Quartz saw a film crew nearby the cube, and one of the crew members said that Apple was filming "a new commercial" for the store's relaunch.

Unfortunately, the new rainbow look of the glass cube is temporary. An Apple spokesman told CNBC that the colors will eventually be removed and the cube will be clear again.
Apple Fifth Avenue is a major flagship store and its reopening will likely be a big deal, so it's possible Apple will share details on the location at its Tuesday, September 10 event.

I'd like to see that but my desire to avoid NYC outweighs it
Ah yes, Moichendizing, moichendizing!Yep, that's the old FAO Schwartz store. May the Schwartz be with you!
Their marketing division has to do something, otherwise it might seem irrelevant and could get downsized. That might be good for the engineering division, though (hint hint!).I vote for a chocolate fountain.
But seriously, I wonder if they considered adding a café like they have at the Apple Park visitor center. That might help set it apart, especially as a (the only?) 24-hour Apple store.
Otherwise, you make a good point. They are still fundamentally just retail stores, with consistent design themes, using the same fixtures, hawking the same products. If one were blindfolded and lead into series of them with blocked out windows, the majority would mostly be indistinguishable from one another. Nice formula retail, but a formula nonetheless.
The NY store may become larger, but there is unlikely to be much inside to distinguish it from others; no existing architecture or other interior features that have been integrated into the formula like they've done in stores like Paris, Amsterdam, DC, or even just blocks away, at Grand Central.
A renovation and expansion does not necessarily mean it will result in a "great space," but it is sure to be familiar. Hopefully not too much.
Yep. Used to be FAO Schwartz (toy store). The cube apple store was the basement of the building behind it. The cube was build over what used to just be a plaza. What's in the building to the right with the Apple logo on it? Temporary Apple store?
More often than not, I agree with the best customer service - though some of my iPhone purchases there were awful. I stop by before 7:00 a.m.. If Apple gives me a reason to go back once it reopens, I'll continue with the early morning visits. This is the Apple store with the best customer service hands down. Lots of tourists, diplomats, politicians, vloggers, press, and VIPs of whatever visit this store on a regular basis. It's also in one of the most expensive and demanding areas of NYC. When something is wrong with any of my Apple products, I go here, cause you simply get treated better vs other Apple stores. I rarely shop there though, too much people.
I never look at the back of my phone except when it's out of the case for cleaning. I never got the cases with the logo cutout. It's like a hole in your body armor. It would be pretty, though. Being an old Apple II head I'd love to see them go back to the rainbow logo. I might even get a "holey" case.

We don't mind.![]()
I don’t think NYC could handle my fat ugly a$$ more than once every 4 or 5 years![]()
