Fifty Shades of Grey

I haven't read either series beyond skimming through a few "can you believe people actually read this crap?!??" blog posts, so it's tough to say if 50 Shades has any similarities to Twilight beyond it's fanfic origins. I suspect that much of the initial sales push came from Twilight fans who were in on the origin loop.

Well I hate to sound ridiculous but how can you join the conversation without having read at least one of the books we're discussing?
 
Just wanted to share an interesting tidbit that I had come across. You were wondering what kind of women enjoy reading these things, and I happen to know that the original target audience was Twilight fans because I had read a bit regarding the book's origins.

I read somewhere, maybe in the preface, that her next book would be a love story with a supernatural twist...

Yeah, I'd rather get a pelvic exam than read any more of her garbage. Beyond all the shocking misogyny and general vulgarity, it really is just a dumb, dumb, dumb, basic retread story.

I've written text messages that are more literary than her crapfest of a book trilogy. Some day, when I'm lying on my deathbed, I'll be really bitter I wasted hours on this book.

I TRIED to read this book BUT I had to stop as it became clear the type of man Mr. Grey was. He could be my arsehole cousin! I hope to GOD I never ever never ever see my arse of a cousin ever again in this lifetime or anyother lifetime. MY arse cousin sleeps with 5 women who are all arrogant and look like the ONLY contest they could win is "slut of the week"! My arse cousin want EVERYTHING done to HIS LIKING or he refuses to do anything. Also my arse cousin wants to manipulate everyone AND everything to how he wants. He is very self centered and greedy and all he cares about his himself. The word "help" is NOT in his vocabulary. He can sleep with all the women he wants I DON"T CARE what bothers ME is his ATTITUDE! IF I NEVER see him again it will be too soon for me! Plus he hates EVERY Apple product with a passion. IF I heard him complain one more time about the iPhone I was going to shove it down his throat so deep he would CRAP it ouot his actual arse!

I'm not sure how clearly you read the book and I hate to defend a poor piece of literary work but Mr. Grey sounds nothing like your cousin. Sounds you have some misplaced rage towards your cousin and you're projecting it on a book character. It's just a book.

You're correct. I do have MAJOR issues with my arse cousin. And I am placed rage that I have towards my arse cousin on the book. And I am sorry.

Well put. The target demographic, with this trash, is neglected housewives. The same that have an affinity for agnsty teen love. Husbands need to take care of business in the bedroom and keep this garbage off of the shelves.
