Hi all,

It’s that time again when I feel like buying an Apple Watch. Apple sure knows how to market their products. Never owned one. Don’t need it. It would just be another gadget distracting me daily from more important things. How long did you fight against this unnecessary purchase? Or are you still fighting it? Or did you give in right away? Or did you *really* need it (like seriously)?

I’m looking at the SE model myself. That way, I’d lose the least amount of money if I end up losing this battle.
I bought an SE last summer, with the goal of tracking sleep and exercise. It's excellent for running and allows me to play music without my phone. I find it a bit cumbersome to sleep in but I still do it because it's useful for me to keep track of that.

As far as the rest, I find it somewhat helpful to have my next calendar event on the watch face, but alerts just annoy the crap out of me and I tend to shut them off.

I find it OK but not great as a wristwatch, since it needs charging every day and this particular model doesn't have always-on display so it's often not visible when I want it to be.

If Apple came out with a ring wearable, I'd ditch the Apple Watch for sleeping and probably only use it for running.

One more question. In your experience, how many years Apple Watch battery stays usable? I read somewhere 2-3 years with normal use.

For me, my series 5 Apple Watch battery dropped to 76% battery health after about 3.5 years (could have been faulty; it could not make through the day), and I paid for a battery replacement (which I didn't mind because it also meant getting a replacement series 5 model; my previous one had a number of scuffs and scratches and had a malfunctioning Digital Crown). It then lasted till I got the Series 10 this year, though battery health again dropped to around 80%.

I typically just charge my watch overnight together with my phone, so I am not really sure if that made a difference. I would say around 3 years is when you really start to feel the effect of a degraded battery + weight of cumulative software updates. Like my Series 5 wasn't slow, but you could feel the slight lag to every action, and I typically end the day with it at around 20-30%. Right now, my Series 10 ends around 60-70%, so will see how it goes. :)

I have the original AW SE, so from 2020. Battery still lasts all day for me. I just pop it in the charger at bed time.

I wear it everyday and use it a lot. The newer always on display models might be different.

Depends on usage and differs, 2-4/5 years.

If battery life/health is a concern, get AC+, or just don’t get one.
