Does anyone know what kind of copy speeds you are getting when copying a file from a Windows pc to a Mac over a gigabit network? I'm a bit worried about this. From Win pc to Win pc I get between 40 to 50 mbps. I've heard that file copies to a Mac are less than 10 mbps on average, which would not be impressive. Just hoping this isn't true. I realize that the copy window in OSX does not list the transfer speed, but I'm assuming somebody has a utility that does list the speed.

Here are some random, possibly stupid, questions:
If there is a performance issue, is it due to it being an SMB share?
What would have the best impact on the issue...
  1. Convert file server drives to HFS+?
  2. Swap out file server and replace with Mac Mini?
  3. Some type of config setting?
  4. Other?
Can an HFS+ external drive run on a Windows server using something like Paragon software?
Would that help a networked Mac in any way, or just make things slower for the networked windows PC's?
