File in Use Error when copying from ext HD

Gahhhhhhhhhhhhh this is driving me insane.

I'm trying to copy media from my NTFS formatted external HD to my mac. It seems like every dozen files get a "file in use" error and it crashes Finder! I'm trying to copy 3-4000 files here, this will not work.

Is it corrupt data? What can i do? Obviously these files are not in use...
