Hi everyone,

This is an extract from the FAQ of a file manager I've been using for a while. Is anyone here aware of such a bug?

---
Q: I can't move items between volumes. Is this a bug?

A: We disabled the move functionality between different volumes by purpose due to a known bug in an OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard core API that can lead to loss of data. Once Apple fixes this issue we will enable it again.
---

Regards,
Claudio

So when was this FAQ last updated?

Moving files between volumes is a very, very unusal thing to do.

Moving files between volumes is a very, very unusal thing to do.

FAQ was updated maybe a month ago? That paragraph was added shortly after the release of the new version of the file manager in which they disabled the cross-volume file moves.

Why would you say it is something unusual? As an example, I move files to and from a NAS all the time. Now I have to revert to using finder, which I don't like much, to do so.

The bug they are referring to was fixed as of 10.6.3.

Looks like the program needs to be updated. If memory serves, there was a nasty bug when trying to move a file to a FAT32 formatted drive. The developers of the program probably just turned off all file moving between volumes to be safe.
