So I deleted my bookmarks.plist from my backup drive a while ago, and I just really need to load it again so I can find the URLS of some sites.

Has anyone had any luck with such recovery software? The main problem for me is that my external drive is FAT32 so none of the OS X apps seem to work. I've found about 2 programs that actually see the file from within Windows, but they want me to pay $99 to actually get the file! $99 for a 20kb preference file.. shocking.

so has anyone had any luck with any cheaper software?

I have used DataRescue PC from ProSoft www.prosofteng.com exactly once, with a 100% success rate.

Unfortunately, ProSoft themselves seem to need SQLRescue Web, because their site is down for the count.

I'll encourage more of my PC clients to do stupid things so I can give you some stats based on a larger sample size 😀
