I have a 2020 iMac and a 3rd Generation MB Pro.
I am nervous about setting up File Sharing on the iMac to enable access to all the files on my iMac from my iPad over my LAN.
Any tips or advice on this subject would be welcome.

Assuming that you are talking about sharing within your home LAN, assuming additionally that you have secured access to it in your router by e.g. allowing only “known” devices to connect (identified by MAC) and having the routers firewall up, please be at ease. 🙂
you could also en/disable file sharing ad hoc only. Personally I recommend getting FileBrowser (Pro) or FE File Explorer for your iPad - it makes file operations from and to the iPad much more comfortable and goes beyond what Apple’s Files offers.

Thanks for that reassuring reply.
I will look into FE File Explorer and FileBrowser (Pro).

Do you want to share all files? iCloud drive automatically shares many folders - Documents, Desktop etc.

I was exploring accessing all the files resident on my 2020 iMac from my iPad Pro 3rd Gen.
