Hello,

Is there any difference, such as security or performance/latency between plugging external HDD into Mac and using macOS's File Sharing vs directly into the router?

If connected to the server via iOS's Files.app, is it possible to search the drive? It doesn't seem to work for me.
Does 'Tags' work and sync between Finder and Files.app? Doesn't seem to work for me.

I'm not sure if it makes any difference to my question, but my shared external drive is set to 'Read' only.

just mount the drive on your Mac right click on it to get to 'Get Info' pop-up windows and make read/write if you want it that way!
