Hi I'm new here - been reading for a while to pick up tips. I'm also new to the world of apply having bought an ipod touch - and I really love it, it is gradually doing ever more in my life!

Anyway, I have a question about file storage. I read some reviews and downloaded ifiles from the app store. I expected to be able to then drag and drop files to store via USB. However it instructs me to use the wifi on my home computer to transfer the files using an address for the ipod (http://then lots of numbers). I did it with a few pictures and pdfs and it is working fine however I am wondering is this http address just my ipod's and my computer is sending straight to it? Or does this mean my files are being put on the net like with dropbox type apps??

I am going travelling next week and had the idea of storing some of my details, passport scan and insurance document pdfs and stuff like that on my ipod touch as a back up (I have a pin on it) but obviously wouldn't want to if they are then viewable by others.

This might be a really silly question but I wonder if someone more technologically knowledgeable than me can shed some light on it. Or if anyone knows an app so I can store pdfs etc which would allow me to transfer via the USB cable.

Many thanks :)

in short: it would be directly to your ipod. no net needed.

you can confirm this easily by unplugging your modem from the phone line. effectively cutting off your internet connection, and try to copy some files to your ipod via the method youve used so far. if it works, means no internet was ever used in that transaction, and your safe

thanks for your reply. I tried your suggestion and it worked. It was probably a silly question but I just didn't want a scan of my passport floating around online!

The ifiles thing worked though it seems to struggle on large pdfs, otherwise it has been fine.

As for more security, once I have my docs on it if I turn sharing off and turn on the authentication password etc would I be safe using hotel/restaurant wifi to check email when traveling etc? I am pretty sure I will be since I can't then get in without entering the password; again really just wanting to check I'm not doing anything stupid!

Thanks again for the advice.
