File transfer progress only updating every 30MB?

I'm not sure if this started happening with Lion, or before it, but whenever I transfer any file/folder of significant size across the network, the transfer progress only ever updates every 30-35 MB, rather than the more frequent updating I was seeing before.

I have an iMac and MacBook Air, both running Lion and a Windows file server. It doesn't matter which devices the transfer is occurring between, the slow transfer updating is happening to them all.

Is there any way to get this to go back to the frequent updating?

Unlikely. The Finder or whatever you use, uses internal buffers to copy the data. I guess the write buffer on your system is 32 MByte, and this value is hard coded in the Finder or the buffer size depends on the available RAM.

Would this be something that would have changed in Lion? I recall that previously it was updating every second or so, showing transfers of a couple MB at a time. Hard to imagine the buffer changed from 2MB to 32MB.
