iPhone File Transfers

Don't know if this is the right place to post, but google has been no help

Is there anyway to 'hack' into your iPhone/iPad to view its files from finder/explorer on the current OS, I'm sure there used to be a way?

I mean any way at all, without having to buy software, through terminal/cmd even?

I just want to get music off for free incase i loose it on my mac etc.
