OK, Ive forgotten my master password

However the file vault is NOT on so im ok, i havent lost any data.

I know my personal login password.

I want to turn File Vault ON but i want the Master Password reset first.

Does anyone know how to Reset the Master Password in this situation?

please dont say i have to hard reset ....

After a quick look in the Security preference.pane and browsing Apple Support a bit, I'm beginning to fear that you have to do a complete clean install to "reset" the Master password without the old one. Sorry. :(

(Just remember to use the "hint" feature next time, right...? ;))

This statement, from Mac OS X 10.4 Help: I forgot the password to my encrypted home folder, is what makes me quite certain:
If you are the administrator of the computer, and you can't remember the master password, the information in your home folder is lost forever.

Everything else is perfect..... :( I dont want to do i complete re-install...... damn.

i did use the hint... but i still couldnt remember :D .. crap hint!

Alot of hassle, but i suppose the security is worth it. Ill have to set aside a Sunday sometime soon in the next month.

I have three 128 bit encrypted disk images where i store 90% of my data but i wanted something for my in current/active docs.

Yeah I did that.

I used "1 up" as a password hint but I'm damned if I can work out what it means. Every now and again I spend a few minutes trying different things. I'll probably get it after about two billion trillion years. Or maybe I should hire a monkey to have a go.
