So, the rm -rf ~/.Trash/* command only seems to remove the files in the trash from one partition, (named HD1, my Startup disk). How do I remove the files from the secondary partition (HD2)?

rm -rf /Volumes/HD2/.Trashes/501/*

Assuming your UID is 501.

Just as a warning, rm should be used as a last resort unless you're well versed in the command line.
A simple syntex error can really ruin your day.

Ok - I've got the same problem, and have spent the last 3 hours trying everything listed throughout this thread and have had no luck. Either I've completely missed something, or somehow the file is related to another problem and won't delete.

I also installed palmdesktop at one time, then switched to mark/space. I've deleted palm desktop but the package still remains in the trash, and I assume this Localized.rsrc file is within that package as previously mentioned.

I've run lsof | grep Localized.rsrc and narrowed it down to these palm related locations:

Missing 203 shanefenton 10r VREG 14,2 115264 714571 /Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits/Address Conduit/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/Localized.rsrc/..namedfork/rsrc

I then deleted (or attempted) to delete these conduits since they are no longer used by mark/space (I hope, and don't think they are) but Localized.rsrc is still in the trash and won't leave me alone! I was hoping not to spend the entire day on this - lucky I'm on break from school I guess, but not what I wanted to do on break!

Here is a better item:
get this software: IT WORKS 100%
http://www.maintain.se/cocktail/
it will delete the file...

Hope that helps...
I just did it and it workd for me :D
Peace out!

Easy...

My goodness. The solution was posted twice, never tried, and it's the easiest thing that was suggested. We get this all the time (localized.xxxx will not delete from the trash). We fix it 100% of the time by simply doing a "Secure Empty Trash" from the Finder pull down. Deletes it every time and I see it about once a week.

Good luck.

Far and away, the most comprehensive solution to delete files that will not delete is to create a new account, move the file into the newly created account's drop box and then delete the account.

Guarranted to work every time!

Thanks, had the same file bothering me a lot

Hi, i just spent 3 hours trying to delete selfsame file after using the (useless) palm desktop and then restarting mark/space - tried to stop all processes, restarting etc, and then finally googling which took about 30 seconds to point this place out with the solution!

I simply used the rm -rf tilde/.trash/* where the most difficult part was finding a tilde, so i ventured though all the symbols and found it in between chinese and korean letters, and now i realize that the terminal accepts cut&paste...

But the funny thing is that on my palm i tried the mark/space email, and that program does not delete whatever i do (which is quite a lot, the zlauncher filesmanager allows me to delete everything, but not this)

Have now had so much trouble with my palm<->mac, having had to delete all calendar/addresses/notes files on the palm and mac, restoring twice (thanks to cardbkup) and it finally works, but was considering shifting to windows so i can use all my palm address fields and the excellent memo program in palm desktop windows

Last year i managed to crash outlook constantly by using palm on it (1500 notes, 1000 calendar/tasks and 1000 addresses) so i am amazed that ical and addressbook on mac seems to survive (alas for my use of custom address fields on the palm - theey are not even visible on the mac) but the mark/space memo application is really needing a brushup...

How to delete Localized.rsrc file from trash

I too got stuck with this, and it ballooned to 21 files after a couple of attempts at temporarily moving it back out of trash, which it didn't want to do, instead making a copy of itself.
What finally allowed me to delete the files was to go into the trash folder by just clicking on its icon on the dock, and then going into each file using "show contents". I went to the deepest level, and took all files and folders out of the palm desktop folder(s) one at a time so all were at one level. I then chose Empty Trash from the Finder menu and had a momentary message come up, but the trash did empty. This was done without going in as root, but I had also turned off the various palm software beforehand. I don't know if it would have made any difference to not turn it off first.

I know this is an old thread, but I thought it may help someone in future.
Cheers!

Hi there

I recently tried to install the syncing software for a PalmOS device (PalmDesktop?) and I didn't like it. Upon dragging the folder to the trash, and emptying it, it gave me an error:

The operation cannot be completed because the item "Localized.rsrc" is in use.

the two buttons are STOP and CONTINUE

I have tried a file shredder, and repairing disk permissions, and NONE of them work. What should I do?!?!? The rubbish Palm software is driving me nuts!
