I have an old database that hasnt been used in a few years using filemaker version 3. I want to upgrade the computers (old ones are using os 8.6) and the program to filemaker 7. Will the new filemaker 7 convert all the old version 3 files into (1)filemaker 7 (2) convert to mac os x? Also are there any known issues with converting the files, etc?
thanks in advance for any help

I do a lot with FMP but wasn't interested in computers when FMP 3 was in use, sorry. Do you really need the old DB or could you just write a new one, perhaps make it better? There are lots of new, really useful features.

You can always import the old Data, if you need that.

how do i just import the data?
If you have built a new structure in FM7 and want to import just the data, Export it from FM3 as a Tab-delimited file, and Import to FM7.
You may want to create a first record in FM3 that has the names of the fields as the field values, just to help you line up the fields for import.

Filemaker can export and import a variety of formats, some of them have restrictions on the length and contents of the fields, which can result in unexpected data changes. For example, an Excel file (.XLS) will truncate text fields at 255 characters.
