I am trying to import photographs ( jpg files ) into Photos on my iPad using a Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader - but it only sees some images - is there a minimim or maximum filename length for jpg phots using this method ?

1024 is the iOS limit I have seen but I think there is path info involved, making the actual/usable filename length limit 932 characters.

Are all of the pictures within a DCIM folder structure?

Yes, they all reside in a DCIM folder. It appears that the 'import' option only shows/recognises filenames with 8 characters. Any less or more and they are not shown. Is this documentated anywhere ?

Wow, you are correct. I played around with both JPEGs and RAW files and see this, too. I found one reference to it in this thread:

I rarely use the reader and then only for photos from my camera card, which are always of length 8.

I have to wonder why Apple designed in this restriction/limitation - it makes little/no sense to me. Archaic or what ??
