wrong.
you can access local storage (iPad's storage) too.
look at the locations on the left..

I would exercise some caution over this. If all apps are sandboxed, it is unlikely this app will pull all those files in and even if they did, other apps would still not have access to them - I'm assuming. Those locations may just related to cloud files that are also downloaded to your device as opposed to files that are only on your device.

My wish would simply be for a central documents folder that all apps can share but you must give them explicit permission - much like how Photos works today. Any photo app can share access to the Photos but the user must give permission to that app first. If we had similar for any file type, it would be great. A single place to store a single copy of say a PDF that the likes of iBooks, PDF Expert and Good Reader could access instead of 3 copies of the same file - one in each app.

When I thought about how they could implement a file system and still keep the sandbox secure this was exactly what I came up with. I have no idea why they won't implement this now given they have the app for it :/

Amen to that. A man can dream. I totally agree with you.

I just need to be able to drop from one cloud service to another easily. Currently I cannot get a file from Dropbox to iCloud Drive very easily.

Can you not already do that with Documents 6?

I have been trying, but cannot get it to work. It is really the only task I may need to resort to a computer to do. It very well be the file type that is causing the problems. I need to download a plex server update (.qpkg file) and then upload that file to my QNAP server (web interface). Whenever I attempt do download the .qpkg file, it automatically opens a .txt file instead. I have no idea why but it happens every time I used Documents 6, Puffin, etc. I was able to get the file onto my server from my iPad, then I figured out a way to transfer from my server to iCloud drive, but then when I go to select the file from my QNAP web interface, it brings up iCloud drive, but the file is grayed out and not accessible. I have been looking through so many forums to figure out how to do this and I just cannot get it to work. I am hoping the Files app improves to the point where it works for me. Any advice is welcome!

Yes, you can

I am sure you are correct, but for my situation, I cannot get it to work properly. I think it is the file type for some reason.

I'm sorry to hear that.
Sounds like some weird bug. Try to contact the people at Readdle (Documents developers). They used to like feedback and appreciate bug reports. Sorry I cannot help you more :-/ I know it must be frustrating and I hope iOS11 can help you with this problem

Thanks! I am sure I will figure it out eventually. For now, I can just pull out my girlfriends old 2010 MacBook Pro to complete the task and move on.

I don't want to get off topic but do you have a link to the Plex package? I can try some other apps such as FileBrowser to see if I can complete this task solely with the iPad.

Okay, just tried this using Documents and it works fine. If you plug that file link directly into the browser in Documents, it opens it up as a text file. Instead, put in the url of the page that holds the file link - in my case I just browsed to this thread.
Now Tap and hold on the link and a context menu will pop up. Select download link. It will pop up with a new window and the name of the file but with a txt extension. Just move to the end of the file name and rename the extension from txt to qpkg and tap done. It will download the file as a qpkg file which will appear in your downloads folder when complete.
If you can connect to the QNAP using Documents then you can just upload directly from there. Let me know if you need screenshots illustrating this.

Okay awesome, that part worked. I never thought to rename the .txt file. So that saved the file to my Documents folder. I will need to try the next part later as I can't access my server remotely (need to be on home network). I will follow up. I really appreciate the help!

Okay, I was able to get the .qpkg file into my "Documents by Readdle" folder. Once I go to my servers web app to upload the file, the file is grayed out. I THINK the only way it will work is to copy the file from my "Documents by Readdle" folder to a normal folder on my iCloud drive. Currently, you cannot do this via the Files app or by Documents 6. I beleive I have hit another wall. Sorry all for hijacking the thread, BUT it shows you how Files is just not there yet.

Good stuff. Let us know how you get on with accessing the QNAP. Documents lets you access local locations so I'm assuming it should be able to connect to the QNAP and let you upload the file. If not, you can share the file from Documents to the FileBrowser app and this should definitely be able to connect to your QNAP. I use this app occasionally to manage files on my Mac Mini Plex server.

I just followed up, see my previous post. The issue is I can't upload the .qpkg file from the server itself. It needs to reside in iCloud Drive, I think.

And this is how it should have been in the first place and until the iPad can habdle such a basic thing the iPad will not ever be a productive laptop replacement for me. I would go ******* crazy writing a thesis on my iPad with those files being all over the place with dofferent copies and versions sitting in different apps

This 'Documents by Readdle' folder, is this in iCloud? Instead of uploading the file to iCloud, can you not upload it directly to the NAS instead and then use the web service to access the Plex update locally on the NAS? I don't have any experience with QNAP but it sounds to me you are trying to get the package to a location where you can then access it using the QNAP interface and if that is the case, I would assume the easiest method would be to access it locally on the QNAP NAS instead of a cloud share.

I encourage everyone to submit this as a request via Apple feedback. I know they are set in their ways but at least they can't say no one asked:

Yes, the Documents by Readdle folder is in iCloud. I agree with your points here, but when I go to browse for the .qpkg file. There is no option to pull from the QNAP server. I only have (currently) iCloud Drive, Documents, and Dropbox. Documents and Dropbox don't seem to be working within Files currently. I am hoping once iOS 11 is finalized, it will.

OK, so you are using the browser on the iPhone to access the QNAP web front end and when you install manually on the QNAP, it is pulling up the Files dialog on the iPhone?
How are you getting that prompt to Install Manually? Is that an option within settings in the Plex Server? Have you tried copying that package to the NAS and just executing that instead of initiating from within Plex?

That documents link on the image you shared. Does that link to the Documents app or is that a shortcut to the folder in iCloud?

Correct, it pulls the Files dialog on iPad and iPhone. The install manually option is the only way I know how to update the Plex server on the NAS. It is an option within the QNAP web interface and not Plex itself. I can download the package right to the NAS, but there is no way to execute. I can physically see the file, but selecting it does nothing and I cannot drag and drop it into the install manually field. In the image, that documents link taks me to a shortcut within iCloud.

really I can't catch your case but generally try KrojamSoft Batch Rename, very helping in batch files rename
