The files app is basically just a glorified hub for iCloud drive and all your other cloud storage services, so no,

Files app is useless. It does not serve its purpose (browse all files on the system, even user-owned). It has way fewer features than other already available third party apps. It cannot be used to store local files.

So, external hard drive support may be a dream forever. Apple loves people to store everything in the cloud.

Hmm uncool. Only had 256gb available on the new iPhone so now trying to put it to use.
