files & folders missing from desktop

Surprisingly my all files & folders were not visible at desktop & also desktop background was changed.

Tried data recovery with disk drill but it did not show any any such files deleted to be recovered.

Please suggest what might have happened?

If you find them, move them off the Desktop. Use aliases!

Look what just happened to the OP! It's far easier to accidentally mess up stuff that's on your Desktop all the time than if things are safely tucked away in other folders.
