I have a problem with files opening very slow on or mac. All the files reside on a PC server. When we go to open the Illustrator files form the PC server to our Macs, it takes an extremely long time. We also have the issue with file names being limited to 35 characters.

Anyone have suggestions?

You'd have to give us an idea of how big these Illustrator files are and define exactly what "an extremely long time" is.

Opening files over the network is of course going to be quite a bit slower than opening them on a local drive. The speed of your network and the size of the files are the primary factors.

As to the file name limits, a bit of Googling seems to indicate that your server probably is using Services for Macintosh and you're connecting via AFP. This is a known issue. You can work around it by using OS X's built in SMB support to communicate with the server natively.

Yes I am connection via AFP. Is their an easy way to connect via SMB. Do I need to set up services on the PC server?
