Filevault and backup documents

My daughter is going to turn filevault off. First she must save her documents and erase them.

Once on her backup disk - will she be able to reinstall? Will they be readable?

I ask due to the fact we are having problems reading her files on other computers- it shows a blank disk.

I certainly hope this makes sense.
