Hey guys,

I've had my MBP for a bit less than a year now and have had the dreaded Filevault "Encryption Paused" bug on it since. Unfortunately I've been too busy (and without another computer) to get the time to back it up and reinstall like others who have not had success with the reset pram solution... To be honest, I haven't noticed the "Encryption Paused" bug to affect performance all that much so I actually kind of forgot about it.

Anyway, El Capitan dropped recently and I tried updating it only to be blocked by the installer because Filevault is "still running". I guess there's no "safe" way around this? I was wondering if I could bypass the Filevault check and try to install El Capitan anyway...

Side note, has anyone found any new resolutions to this stupid Filevault bug?!

Nope, no solution sorry. Just upgraded a machine to El Cap and decided to turn on Filevault.....stuck at the Paused like so many others. Have tried everything to get it fixed.....nothing works.

Yeah, what kind of support have people gotten from bringing it into the store? I can't imagine they would just send you home without a resolution (assume you don't have an external drive available to backup)

Everything I've read is in store will just have you wipe and reinstall.

Shameful Apple has no resolution for this.

I have this problem as well, from day one of buying my MBP. I have a case going on with Apple support now. They tell me engineers are working on a solution where I won't have to reinstall. I'll keep all posted if that truly turns out to be the case.

Definitely don't reinstall. If Apple can't figure out a way to fix this.....consider us all in trouble!! ;-)

Time Machine itself works fine. Just the scheduler. Hell, someone in the other thread did their own Applescript just to kick off backups hourly.

I'm definitely not interested in reinstalling. One I don't have the time to be without and two it is just a pain. BTW, I have no problems at all with my MBP despite the encryption paused. Everything and I mean everything works perfectly. Time Machine has been flawless since day one and has been used a few time to recover items.

I think I will be content for now not upgrading to EC, but it would be nice to get this fixed. I have uploaded over a gig of data logs to Apple support and I get an update call everyday from them. I really think they are truly trying to figure it out.

Ok so.....my previous reply probably didn't make much sense.....I thought I was replying to the thread where Time Machine isn't running in El Cap

Sorry.

As for the Filevault issue....this was my Mom's machine that we did upgrade to El Cap and then decided to turn on FV. She was paused for a week. I went over to start to manually backup files.....a couple hours worth of work.....and clean up the system. By the time I was done, her FV was encrypting. No idea how or why. Next was the Optimizing that took a while but did finish.
