M Mike Boreham macrumors 601 Sep 2, 2016 #2 I have FileVault enabled on all my Macs. Not done any back to back but find situation perfectly acceptable. My understanding is that the main effect is a small penalty during boot up while the drive is unlocked.

D doboy macrumors 68040 Sep 2, 2016 #3 Don't really notice it much other than during boot. 2016 rMB is suppose to be much better than 2015 per Ars review.

Cristim74 macrumors 6502 Original poster Sep 2, 2016 #4 I never shut it down, I just let it go into standby so bootup time should not be an issue.

Click to expand... Looks like the newer model is much better with File Vault enabled Performance on the new MacBook is dramatically better whether it’s encrypted or not, Click to expand... I didn't realize the older model bogged down a bit with File Vault
