It looks like Filmic Pro will be first out of the gate to support Pro Res. The good news is that it will support Proxy, LT, regular 422, and HQ. This will certainly help with some of the storage constraint in 4k. I hadn't seen this talked about before and had hoped that support for the multiple flavors of Pro Res would happen.

I heard it won’t let you record in full hi res if you only got a 128 gb Pro Max.

Apple says you'll be able to shoot in 4K/30p in the format (unless you choose the 128GB model, in which case you'll annoyingly be restricted to 1080p at 30fps).

I read that the format could eat up 6GB for 1 minute of recording. So either Apple put a slower memory in 128GB models or Apple understood users would misunderstand the format, and contact support regarding full memory.
ProRes is not recommended for regular recordings. It’s a lot of information in that file format.

What's strange to me is that apparently all flavors of Pro Res are supported. Why not enable Pro Res LT on the 128? You get the same amount of time as HQ on the 256GB model. Too nuanced for Apple?

I guess it could be a speed issue, but that seems a little unlikely to me. I can't imagine there is that much speed difference between the various Pro models.

I just tested it out. The quality is pretty incredible for video coming out of a phone. I'm pretty impressed. But yeah, it uses a LOT of space. 😆

Here's some good sample footage, and some rationale for why using ProRes LT may be the sweet spot for some creators.
