So exciting
Just kidding. This sounds so terrible Apple.
How about focusing on real apps?
The mail app is terribly basic. The calendar app is years behind. Still not a fan of the maps app and really the only thing you have going for you is the blue chat bubbles in iMessage .
I have trouble imagining this to be fun. I mean what can be so exciting about developing an app?
Just wait for Episode 63:
"The creation and demise of Game Center as we aren't using it now"
Muff

Yup . I wanted to be positive. I just don't get why Apple keeps getting a pass from consumers these days.

I mean will someone here tell me why after 10 years!!!!!!.... my videos are in my photos app?

Videos are not photos . Isn't that right? And I'm not even asking about folders lol

Videos and photos you take are in the photos app because it makes sense. It would be pretty stupid to have to go to different apps to see photos and videos i took from the same trip. If you want to see see just the videos, its one of the thumbnails in the albums section.
[doublepost=1486834872][/doublepost]As someone whose been interested in app development, I will actually check this out, maybe it sucks, maybe it'll be good, who really knows until episodes are released?

-Spoiler Alert
It is going to be terrible
I cannot give an eyeroll large enough to be worthy of this nonsense.
Yawn. Apple want to be a competitor to Netflix with this uninspiring garbage?
I cringe at the thought of this. How on earth did this get made? Such a horrible horrible horrible idea.
Let's keep an open mind until we see an episode..... wonder who that "very famous" host is. Could it be someone of the caliber of Howie Mandel, Piers Morgan, Nick Cannon, or even Simon Cowell? My interest is piqued.....

Wow why are people so negative these days... Explains maybe all the populism in the world right now.
Anyway it sounds like a nice show format to me and I'm looking forward to seeing it. Way better than all these next talent, super star, top model whatever crap.

You mean don't judge it before we see it? KILL HIM!!!!!!

lol

Famous host = one of the guys from Silicon Valley. Probably TJ Miller.

I wonder what these developers used to write their software: a 3 year old dual core mac mini with soldered ram, a 4 year old Mac Pro or a 3 year old iMac with a laptop processor, 5,400rpm HD and soldered ram ?

Apple, how about building cutting edge computers instead of dabbling in leftist hollywood productions and politics ?
...leftist hollywood productions?

I'm really struggling to understand this... Do we get to vote them off the island if we don't like their UI? Do have to eat a bug for every bug found in their app? Do they need to build a developer system from bamboo and human hair?

I've been skeptical of Apple getting into content from the beginning, but this combination reality TV/long form advertisement/celebrity endorsement really kind of turns me off.

I still can't get over the name. So cringeworthy.

I have trouble imagining this to be fun. I mean what can be so exciting about developing an app? Dont get me wrong, I love Apps, but coding is not really something that goes well on video. How are you going to film this? People are not moving at all and you would have to film the screen.

This all seems to me like a poor man's shark tank
I'm sure they will contrive something ridiculous and controversial. With the "Jade Egg" Queen Gwyneth Paltrow involved, anything is possible. There is no advice too stupid for that woman to dish out in a superior manner.

It could be lots of fun and a big hit in the way "The Osbournes" was. That doesn't mean it won't be eminently worthy of mockery. It's just hard to picture anything worthwhile coming from that roster of mentors. At least two of them are pretty wackadoodle and come out with some really harebrained ideas as "entrepreneurs". I like them fine as entertainers, though. As with all things Apple and Trump these days, we shall see. It could all turn out great. Strange as heck. But great. The world is a weird place like that. You just never know. Someone sacrifices a chicken to the dark gods at the right time and makes a music video about it and things turn out just hunky dory.

The developers selected to appear on the show met with and received direct mentorship from four influencers and entrepreneurs, namely Gary Vaynerchuk, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba, and will.i.am. The influencers were "brilliant" and "provided a lot of value to the apps that they advised,"
Wow, great, I see what they did.

Vaynerchuk - not a developer
Paltrow - not a developer
Alba - not a developer
will.i.am - not a developer, plus an idiot

If Apple is getting a pass, other tech companies are getting a pass as well. Where are the Google video app or Windows video app? Besides, if you can ignore the name, the photos app offers a dedicated sections for things like videos in the albums tab.

"Apple built the set and tore it down at the conclusion of filming. The set was absolutely beautiful and set up in a way like no other competition show I've seen before. It's very tech chic, with beautiful decor and decorations. Only Apple could do it this way. It's very, very well done. Steve Jobs would have been proud of the set."

I think we should have a new tagline "Only Apple can say it this way"

well, what do expect from the most left liberal progressive CEO in the USA and hollywood elite celebrities get together to produce something ?
I had no idea software applications could have a political affiliation.

Buzz light year.

Actually buzz or woody as hosts and I might watch one episode. As long as they get to flirt with Alba.

Maybe consumers are happy with their Apple products and maybe it's just you (and a few other more vocal critics) who are having problems? Has that possibility never occurred to you?

Tell me again why I should have to switch between two apps (photos and videos) just to relive the memories of a particular event?

I think a lot of people that use these forums are advanced users or even power users. I’m pretty sure Apple have done the required research and know what makes them money and of course have positioned themselves accordingly.
The position they have taken doesn't suit some of these aforementioned forum users. Sooner or later you, (and I), need to make a choice. That choice is to stay with Apple apps/devices or go third party. I’ve already changed to Fantastical. simply because the search function on the Apple provided Calendar.app is limited to 1 year. There are a lot of other apps/hardware that I’ll also change when I find a suitable alternative.
Tim knows where the money is.
I feel Apple walks a fine line between ensuring their stock apps maintain a basic level of functionality, and not stepping on the toes of other competing app alternatives.

What Apple probably does is identify the key features that an app ought to have, and focus on those core features exceedingly well. What they won't do is bother implementing niche features that only a small subset of users might use. This gives 3rd-party developers a way to differentiate their own apps from Apple's stock apps, by implementing the very features that Apple can't or won't include. Most users are probably fine with the stock apps which come pre-installed on their iOS devices, and Apple knows this.

For example, Overcast (a podcast app) has managed to carve a niche following for itself by using a distinctly unique design language and with 2 signature features (smart speed / smart boost). This is something I don't see Apple doing, because it's not a feature every podcast app has to have.

THIS^ x1000. I haven't logged into this site for months and months. But that comment is really chewing at me. Can we add to it the Reminders app, which after how many iterations it's had should be a lot more powerful and useful by now. I hate to be THAT guy, but seriously frustrated and hoping Google's phone is awesome when I'm ready to upgrade in couple years so I have more than one choice of a good smartphone to get.

If this is even half the popularity of TWiT, I'll be mightily impressed.
