Canon XL-1 was NOT a consumer grade camera. More "prosumer" to professional. It's not something you would have normally shot a movie with, but it sure as hell wasn't something Pops filmed Jimmy's baseball game with either.



It was a pretty big staple of wedding/events videographers of the day.
Yes, that camera was considered at least prosumer and very professional (I aways wanted one too), depending on the use case. And was HUGE back in the day, especially with professional Mac users. Apple also used it when showing off the PowerMac G4 (quicksilver and MDD) and PowerBook G3 and G4 Titanium (attached).

Imagine if a kitchen appliances manufacturer would sponsor movies. The poor crew would have to use a fridge to shoot the movie.
