filter failed on all printers after update to 12.0.1

I'm getting a 'filter failed' printer error on multiple USB printers after update to 12.0.1 on new mbp 16.

anyone else? solutions?

Epson NX420 printer. worked on Big Sur. today on Monterey I went to print, no! filter failed. tried several online suggestions; deleting printer folder, name and so on, still same problem. possible driver update needed??

Yes, i've done everything i found online too... I returned the MacBook 16 and it works fine on my MacBook air m1- works fine with 12.0.1 (waiting for other shoe to drop)

tuesday I was having an issue with my xfinity modem/router, and yesterday I swapped it out at the x store for a new modem/router. as soon as the modem/router was activated, and all my devices were back online, the first thing I did was check my printer. It worked !!! no more "filter failed." not sure why others are getting the same error message?
