Help! Whenever I import a 720x480 mp4 file to Final Cut Express I have to render it. And whenever I add an effect to a clip I have to render again. Is there a way to stop this?

There is no way of stopping the rendering. The only thing you could do, is to cut the parts that need editing, and put them in a new sequence, and then just paste it in with the sequence where your final video is when you are done editing it. This way, final cut will only have to render smaller parts, and not the whole thing over and over.
I know it is a pain in the ass, but there is no other way, unless I dont know it :) So I hope someone else checks this, and perhaps they know another way! This way you learn it, and me :)
