Final Cut Express - Render Problems due to different properties?

Hey all -

I'm having a bit of trouble with Final Cut Express - just bought it, used it before for editing, but never had to set up the clips/system properties.

The footage I have came from a DVD transfer off a miniDV, which I imported, and the frame size is 320x240.

All the settings in FCE are 720x480 it looks like?

Are the different settings why it needs to render every time I add something to the timeline ? If so - is there anything I can do to stop that?

Check the Item Properties for one of the clips on the DVD (Cmd+I). What does it say about the native format and resolution?
