Hey folks.

I have maide an movie on 40 min.
When i export the movie to final cut movie the final file is on 8,5 Gb i want this movie on a dvd so i can play it on my dvd player in the living room, but it is to big how can i get it smaler in sice? I know i can compres it to a mpeg 4 but then it wil not play on my stand alone dvd player and the file must support idvd. Please help me.

DVDs use mpeg2 encoding. This dramatically reduces the size. When you exported your movie it is in quicktime format. If you are using iDVD it will do everything for you. DVD studio pro may require an additional program such as cleaner 6 athough i am not sure. Needless to say your movie will fit on a DVD using iDVD which is able to make DVDs aslong as 1 and half hours.

If you do have DVD Studio Pro then you can go File -->> Export -->> Quicktime then change the quicktime settings to MPEG2, here you will be able to select the bitrate to do it at, the default bitrate of 8 K/b sec should be small enough to fit...

If you want to use iDVD do this. Export the movie as a Final Cut Pro reference movie (do not "check" the "make self-contained movie" box). Import the FCP ref movie into iDVD. Select "burn DVD" and iDVD will compress the movie and burn it for you. Simple as pie.
