this is a joke for anything CDMA, speeds are too slow for a decent facetime convo, i've tried this a few times and just gave up.

Not true in my experience. I used facetime daily over Vz's network while on vacation just two weeks ago without issue 90% of the time.

Why didnt they let the iphone 4 do this with iOS 6?

It cant be a hardware thing, cause i can do it now over 3g just fine on my iPhone 4 with 3gunrestrictor

So will this work either AT&T, Verizon or Sprint? Now I regret my decision when I got Wifi iPad 3 instead of 4G iPad 3

If you have an iphone you can jailbreak it and use cydia apps like tetherne & mywi i think there called

Use your iphone as a hotspot for your wifi only ipad

I was getting ready to be dissapointed but I just remembered that I will be upgrading to the new iphone anyway so I can still keep my happy.

Apple finally perfected tech for 3G while everyone else has moved on to 4G LTE 6 months ago. Wow, congrats Apple.

I guess in my area VzN speeds never go over .5mb (from seeing friends speed tests) and I have Sprint and have tried it a few times with them speeds and have had hellatious results!

If I was thinking I would have ran a speed test, but alas I didn't think of it. At home, I average 1.5ish. I'm traveling for work (Savannah, GA) and just finished a facetime over 3G call with my wife. My speed here is 2.13Mbps so as expected the call was flawless.

I'll be in BFE Louisiana next week, that should be a real test :D

My biggest disappoint with Google Chrome on android is the lack of flash. Everyone is moving away from it though so don't expect Apple to pick it up at this point.

agreed but still lot of time to go till we get webpages only with html5... anyways hope the iPhone 5 is worth the wait... i m using a iPhone 4s and really disappointed with the stupid reception issues since upgrading to 5.0.1 above...

Some of you actually JB'd JUST for 3G video chat instead of just getting a free app, such as Tango...that, by the way, is a cross platform solution?

Does 3G = CDMA?

I mean I'm sure it works great on HSPA 4G on the ATT iPhone 4S but for us 4S users on Verizon... I'm sure it's going to be garbage if I can barely stream Pandora without stuttering.

I wasn't under the impression anyone even used facetime. I had mine jailbroken with 3g unrestricter and never even used it then. I only jb'ed to use that to get over the app store 20-50 mb limit.
I tried it for the very first time myself a few days ago. I made a myself to myself FaceTime call from my MB to my iPhone. worked good but I really have no use for this because no one I know besides my boss has an iPhone/iPad. I don't really have a need to call myself because I can just look in the mirror and save some time next time.

Considering how limited coverage 4G has right now, it's not as bad as you make it.

Yes I did, and you make sense as I have tango too, but not everyone has it, and not everyone is interested enough to get it. Its easier to get folks to cooperate with Facetime then it is to get them to go download an app for a feature they don't care much about in the first place.
