Since PithHelmet stopped working with 10.4.4 I've had to use Firefox and Adblock and I've just discovered that I can control click on my most despised in-your-face avatar (you know who you are) and zap it permanently from my lifestyle with a single click, or 'boom' as Steve Jobs would say.

I'm converted.

Mine represents peace and love.

Ad-blocking apps aren't necessarily a good idea. They can mess some sites up pretty bad. :(

What ads? :p ;)

I don't understand.. does ad blocking prevent the ad from loading, so the site gets less money?
Is there any script you can write to disable ad-blocking software.

I know if my site were funded solely by ads, I would be mega-ticked about people doing that...

No, clearly mine is more in your face than yours.

Yeah, that's why I don't use any. However, I wish I had the option of loading Flash ads. Some sites have several on a single page, and that really grinds Safari to a halt on my PB.

firefox+flashblock=awesome. flash movies show up as a gray background with a play button in the middle. click the button to load and play the movie XDD

PC version?

I aslo have some Avavtars that i don't like.

And thats being polite!

Firefox and the 'adblock' extension work with OSX, Win or linux. If you install firefox you might want to try the 'flashblock' extension also.

I suppose you'd call this a 'slow burn' thread. Only took 4 months to take off.

'Flashblock eh?' must check it out. Only about a week to go for me and I'll also be able to have an annoying avatar.
Yeah you're right... I found it in a search. I was looking for better ad-blocking in Firefox and this one came up. I was mainly wondering whose 'tar you were speaking of.

The ones I hate most are the sound ones. Here I am, happily watching some Grenadier with my headphones, to suddenly get this drum&bass over the top, much louder than anything else, that took about 5 mins to find the offending tab

WORKS!!

No more annoying bouncy Apple or Mr T or any of the other animated Avatars.

Of course if theres a way to make only the 1st frame of an animation display and therefore leave it as a static image i would be much happier with that.

I've said it before and I'll say it again... Camino has a feature that allows you to play an animated image only once.
