And he invented exactly what?

You totally missed the point.

I just wish he'd stop being so political..

He had.

Nice pick by the FT. Cook deserves this recognition and has been a great CEO so far. I like his unflappable style and the way he's managed the daunting task of stepping into the mythologically huge shoes of Steve Jobs. It's probably been fun for a lot of us to second-guess him and sit around mumbling "what would Steve do?" in the meantime but Tim Cook has had to get up and go to work and actually lead Apple every day since he was tapped for this job. He's more than just getting that job done, he's been good at it.

Congrats Tim.

The man is holding a lot of weight on his shoulders right now. Tim Cook has well earned this title.

I just hope he didn't read MR, or he won't be able to stand up straight. Too many negativities here :D

If he wants to run a non-profit promoting a LGBT agenda, then quit and do so. Until then, run a damn tech company and stop software bugs deleting my important data.

I'd just like my iPhone 6 keyboard to work in landscape mode, and to have the damn phone play voice messages out the correct audio output. When it gives me ONLY ONE CHOICE (Speaker) yet is playing out the earpiece, WTH????

Can it be so hard to fix the landscape keyboard issue in messages?

I guess Tim's good at making money, but not so great at making sure major bugs are fixed in a timely fashion.

The company has been running on fumes ever since this guy took over. I don't see any innovation or creativity at all.

Apple Watch? Really?

That's putting it nicely. What has this guy done that ins't just a continuation of the work Jobs did?

Apple Watch? Yikes. If that's all this guy has up his sleeve, then Apple is in some serious trouble.

I'm curious, not to start a flame war, but what elements of Tim Cook's leadership do you find so appealing.

Not to sign up for getting flamed (but hey, I just came in from shoveling snow in 18º weather and a 10mph wind so flame away)...

For openers Cook managed to shift some stuff (and staff) around without having the whole top end of his company take a hike, as opposed to, for example, what just happened with Chris Hughes and the (remains of) The New Republic magazine. It's no mean feat to reorganize a few things without creating massive tempests in teapots when some iconic leader departs an iconic company.

OK I'm outta here, sorry to have butted in. :)

Lets face it, Tim is doing a good job for what job it is. I mean, managing a multibillion dollar company with customers clawing for something and investors demanding insatiable returns. The face that he hasn't had a heart attack is a good sign.

MOD NOTE: please leave any discussion of Tim Cook's sexual orientation out of this thread and take it to PRSI.

Thanks!

Well, Cook is responsible for the dismal new MacPro, for the continued use of TB, which is going nowhere; also the iWatch, which might or might not be ok, but will never be a great success .

Not to mention Lion and everything else after SL .

Oh, and my iPhone 4s now has all the beautiful iPhone bugs, a short in the volume buttons, messy wifi and bluetooth, etc ..

shame Time didn't take into account the scores of 2011 MacBookPro users with ****** GPUs.

Yes I'm sure Watch is the only thing Apple is working on. Cook should just shut the company down and return the money to shareholders.

My foot is more worthy than Tim Cook is. I seriously cannot stand this dude. He shouldn't be running apple. They mines well have hired a monkey.

I'm not the biggest fan of some of Apple's latest software releases (iOS 8 killed my music app, for some reason I can't push the back button anymore and I don't know where the cover art went, I ditched itunes and went to Google Play music which "just works"), but I'm also curious what people find so UNappealing about Tim Cook's leadership. He's not a magician but he seems to have the respect of his employees and the company is making lots of money.

He was not afraid to get rid of Steve's protege Forstall when it needed to happen, also not afraid to take a big risk in the major redesigns of iOS and OS X, he has expanded charity giving by Apple, has had Apple be more vocal on equal rights legislation and movements, has hired people (Angela Ahrendts and Paul Deneve) familiar with the fashion industry to help with the Apple Watch launch, decided that the Apple Watch is a great new product line to begin post-Jobs, growth in Apple stock has reached new heights, ignored Carl Icahn's poor suggestions, and has shifted ads to emphasize more on how their products can enrich people's lives.
