Do tell. You have no idea what choices I've made. On the other hand, its very easy to tell you're a very prideful person, who seeks the approval of others. You flaunt your job, salary and "success" with almost every post. It's not hard to tell what your motivations really are.

Oh, I almost forgot the obligatory cliche passive aggresive winky face....;)

You can knock it backwards & forwards as much as you like; I dont need your approval nor anyone else, I never have. Anyone can be successful if they want regardless of background it`s simply a mind set, some cry some do.

My motivation is to do the very best for my family, training & mentoring those with talent and drive so that they will one day replace me and exceed my position, certainly not to impress the nameless on forums...

"Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves."

I'll probably get flamed for this, but if you can't afford it, don't buy it. I find it very hard for a college student to justify actually needing a BTO RMBP.

You're in college, don't go into a ridiculous amount of debt; buy a cheaper MBP or MBA, save the rest or spend the rest on food/beer.

Ido not agree with that if he truly wants that retina MacBook pro then he should get it because then he will be truly happy, while with non retina not:mad:

Really? There were a lot of things I wanted in college that I didn't have... like a car... (although I think I was happier when I didn't have a car actually)

I think unahppiness comes from inflated expectations. I would've been pleased beyond belief if I had a MBA in college.

His happiness will only be temporary. After he discovers it is quite difficult to pay off debt with interest, he will be more miserable later.

Why I should get something I do not like and pay money for it. If I want something then better I will try to find a way to legally obtain that thing then just get something I do not like.

P.s. speaking from my own experience i am a student my self and afcause I cannot get awrything what I want But I am puting my available money only towrds those things that I truly want so let say if I have 2200 of this money I can buy a crappy car, crapy tv and a crupp laptop and a crappy cellphone and each of thouse thing won't really make me a truliy happy or I can buy just buy one thing but it will be truly what i want like a retnal MacBook pro so better I will do that, then buying multiple things which want make me truly happy

I think you really need to re-evaluate things if you achieve happiness through buying stuff. Sometimes we make compromises and sometimes that compromise might be a MBA vs rMBP. Many people would love to have a MBA or any half decent computer.

So much bad advice!

OP, do not listen to all the "Don't waste your money" and "You will end up with a lot of debt" BS. Honestly, if you really want it and you can pay for it (judging from your original post) buy it. It really is as simple as that. Most of the people I have seen here have either made stupid money decisions (uncertain about whether they can pay it off) or are just jealous/stingy with their money.

Consider this, you are going to be using the laptop for 5+ years, why settle for second best when you KNOW you can pay for it? You will always regret this. These are luxury, one time purchases, take good care of it and you are golden.

Computer clusters are overrated, are you seriously thinking of spending copious amounts of time there like some of the lab rats I have seen? No, I didn't think so. You can always remotely access those computers and go about your work wherever you want, your room, library, coffee shop etc. and you get to do this on a wonderful screen.

In summary, buy it if you know you can pay for it.

Fanny answer? That post is sarcasm if you don't recognize it.

But don't u see a truth in that post?
U are playing with ur health.
U might safe a couple of backs now, then ruin ur eyes and then what?!

To restore ur eyes u might be sending 1000s if not 10.000s dollars In the feature :(

You think a computer is going to ruin your eyes? but having a retina will save them?

It is much cheaper to go outside and take a walk to rest your eyes if you have eye strain due to having a computer.

There is no scientific proof that a retina computer is good for your eyes.

i do not know, i am working alot and as most of you i do not take 15 minutes rest awry hour as doctor advises. i am doing music production and i might sit working 5 hours non stop and the go take a dinner and then go to work another 4 hours non stop. so retina displey might be a good solution for people as me

Based on no evidence? Just some random guy with a sarcastic remark on the internet?

You can buy whatever you want but don't think that somehow the retina screen is going to save your eyesight.

um you realize that theres been reports of retina display actually fatiguing eyes even more right?

In case the OP is still looking for advice, I'll add mine.

Wait.

Whatever else might be said about the rMBP, the most obvious truth is that it's a first-generation product. It has a few warts. If you want to take the last of your savings to buy a computer to use for 4-5 years, this isn't the best investment.

If you have a computer now, wait until you get to college to see what you really need. You may even be able to get a better deal through your school. If you really need a new notebook now, buy something you can afford now. You'll be fine.

Also, you're going to find plenty of other demands on your money once you start school. A new notebook seems like the most important thing now. In three months, there may be something else. Your life is about to change a lot. Be patient and let it happen.
