Has anyone found a practical use for this app or used it in a real life situation? It was one of the new features of iOS that I was really excited about on paper but I have yet to find a situation where I can actually put it into practice. Are there ways I can make the app more useful?

I use it all the time. I check to see where friends and family are. For example, before I call to ask if someone wants to go to lunch or something, I'll check to see if they are around, or if they are working. When I leave work, I'll check to see who is home before deciding on what to do for dinner. It just sort of fits into your daily routine if you and your friends and family share each other's locations.

I have on many occasions! Recent example is when we all went camping. We used this program to keep track of each other until we all met at the camp!

Ahh thats very smart! I guess it could come in handy at something like a music festival or ski resort (though network is usually overloaded at places like this). I guess the main reason I don't use it all the time is because none of my friends want to have their location broadcast all the time, but I will keep it in mind for situations like those aforementioned where it is necessary to keep track of everyone! I guess perhaps it is better suited for use in specific situations rather than everyday life. Thanks for the tip!

Downloaded it when it came out...haven't used it yet. I think most people feel its pretty nosy to want to know where they are at a certain time.

If a person doesn't want people to know their location they can hide their location from everyone. If a person chooses to show their location then they obviously dont care about people knowing where they are.

Dad, sister, and couple cousins all share locations.

Was real handy during the holidays.

I'm a cyclist out riding, it's kind of nice knowing that when I take off riding into the country side 'someone' knows where I am for safety reasons without having to go through the effort of spilling details everytime I set off.

I use it all the time. I check to see where friends are before texting so I don't interrupt them in work or school. Even when meeting up with them I will check their location to see how far away they are if they are late. My friends and I sort of stalk each other on it too so I'll get creepy texts asking what I'm doing in a certain location. I love it.

How many other friends do you have that use it? How did you convince them to let you track them? I would love to do stuff like that, its very useful, but it seems like all of my friends are too concerned about their privacy to let me track where they are. What should I tell them!??

Why don't you just respect their privacy and leave it alone?

I could be wrong, but I think he means to find a way to ease their concerns of third-party privacy and not privacy from hiim specifically.

My girlfriend had the same issue. We both wanted to use it, but I had to explain to her that I was really the only one who could see where she was. Not her other friends or family, or stalkers. Once we cleared that up, we both got on board and have been using it every day to keep track of where we are after work to see who is closer to pick up our 3-year-old.

My wife doesn't like it in general, but still has it enabled for me. I use it so I can make sure she made it to work okay (she goes to work at 4am before the snow plows come out), and that's really my main use for it.

I use it a lot with my wife:

    1) She doesn't always leave work at the same time. I can check and see where she is so I can know when to start making dinner without having to bother her with constant phone calls. "Have you left yet? Have you left yet? Where are you now?"

    2) Inversely, when I DO need to call her and I know she's driving somewhere I check to see if she's arrived before I call. There's no reason to add to the number of people talking and driving out there. I'm happy to wait a few more minutes.

    3) I've used it a lot when the plan is "meet me at the subway station" or "I'll be in the grocery store parking lot." It sure beats the previous method of "Where are you? What? Your left or my left? Do you see me waving? No, that's some other guy with the same coat as mine. I see him too, walk towards that spot."

Real-world example: Many of the subway stations here have 2 'pick-up' lots. Usually in totally opposite directions. When I called to ask if she's in the north or south lot I'd usually get "Uhmmm...there are busses by me?" I don't have to have that conversation anymore.

    4) I haven't been to a theme park yet, but I imagine it'll be super-useful at Disney World this year. We'll often split up for an hour or two, and it's hard to get someone on the phone when you're out in a noisy theme park and it's hard to hear your phone ringing.

In my group of friends I have 6 friends with iPhones and 5 of them are on friend finder. 1 of them I think has disabled it cuz it has said "location unavailable" for the past few weeks and the other friend who doesn't have it, is her twin sister.

My other friends don't really care about the privacy thing because its not like you are sharing it with the public. You are sharing it with your other friends who you should trust. Plus if my friends can tell I'm at Wal-Mart, its no big deal. I don't have anything to hide.

I use it all the time, the old days of texting my friends "where you at?" are over. I use it everyday. Let the stalking begin....

Either she turned on Hide From Followers, OR what might have happened (it did to me), is that she got her phone swapped at the apple store and didn't re-download the app and re-signin on her new phone.

As far as I know she didn't swap her phone so I figured she either deleted it or is using the hide feature.

I have friends who often drive to see me or vice-versa and we're about 35 minutes apart. When you factor in traffic, that creates a bigger window, so we've used the app (well, those of us with iPhones) to get a better estimate for when to expect the person to arrive.

Is it necessary? No (I remember when you let someone know you were leaving with a phone call...if that...and then arrived whenever you arrived).
