Share Lost Item Location With an 'Airline'
How is that going to work? Do you need to have the airline's phone number, and one that supports iMessages at that?
Is the adoption rate for this by the airlines found to be quicker than the adoption rate for driver licenses in the Apple Wallet app?
macOS has a Finder, so simply "Find" might be considered too similar to "Finder" by Apple.

I live in a four-story building. I always feel that locating a lost item in here would be futile since it doesn't take altitude into account. And I'm certain it's doable if they wanted to.
For altitude, AirTags would need a barometer it think. There has to be a refresh at some point, probably gaining one. Until then, yes, it’s very futile. We live in a 23 story building, and while it might be possible to find something stolen going through each floor, trying to find it with close proximity locating, I’d rather not and continue to hope should we ever be stolen from, the thieve to live in a one story building.
I didn't get it to unlock. I got the erase all settings option by holding the side button for 10 seconds while connected to the charger. I don't know if the "find my" was disabled. I just assumed it was after it erased all settings. I don't live in an apartment building and no one came by asking about it.
This is so required. My bag was misdirected to an unused terminal at Heathrow. I showed the baggage rep its location on Find My, but he would have had to take my phone with him to try to find it. Having banking apps on my phone, I decided not to risk it. Ended up being couriered to me in a week instead. This would have made it much easier.
