I went to use Find My iPhone to locate my iPad which I had misplaced somewhere in the office. I use the "play sound" feature frequently to locate my iphone (yes I am hopeless).

However as the iPad is wifi only I noticed that Find My iPhone is pretty much useless as the ipad isn't connected to wifi when sleeping, and I have a Smart Cover so it sleeps whenever the cover is closed.

My question is, does the wifi only ipad connect to wifi occasionally when sleeping to check for updates or anything, or is Find My iPhone pretty much useless on Wifi only iPads?

Cheers :)

Really? Perhaps it is a limitation of the 4th gen ipad?

Wait silly me! Find my iphone setting was off! Sorry for waiting anyone's time.

It should stay connected even when the cover is closed. It would suck to only get FaceTime calls or iMessages when you happened to be using the iPad.
