Hey all, just a few questions since I'm a new IP user.

1- Can you activate "Find My Phone" feature without activating iCloud (since I do not need iCloud or backup anything)?

2- For "Find My Phone" feature to work, does the phone need to be connected to Internet? And if my location services is switched off will I still be able to track the phone? And anyone can explain more about how this feature works and how it tracks etc....

Thanks.

You must have iCloud enabled for find my iPhone. It's a security feature to prevent theft. I'm not sure how you would expect your phone to be able to be tracked with no connection to the internet at all. It's location isn't just magically known by find my phone. It must be turned on and on either a cell internet connection or wifi. Besides magic, there is no other way for this to work.

Using an iCloud account is a 'must' option. It regularly backup your account with information so you could track your activities.

Thanks, just would like to know how the tracking works etc? Does it need internet access from the phone and location services to be active on the phone for the tracking to work or does it tracking by cellular reception or something? - Anyone who knows the answer to this please share some info on how it works.

Thanks!

You can track your mobile location via iCloud website. You need an active internet connection (whether WiFi or carrier internet package) on your iPhone.

Once you activate iCloud account and enable Find My iPhone. Do the following:

  1. Open in any web browser iCloud.com
  2. Log into your iCloud account.
  3. Click on the option 'Find iPhone' in the main menu.
  4. Now click on 'All devices' at the top.
  5. Select your device from the list. And your iPhone will be tracked.
There are 3 useful thing you can do from your remote account.

Play Sound - It'll play an audible tone even if your iPhone is on silent mode. It comes handy when your iPhone is lost in the house.

Lost Mode - In this option you'll be asked to provide a number which will be displayed on your lost iPhone so that a person can contact you if he finds your phone. Moreover, an audible tone will be played to draw attention.

Erase - If you think you cannot retrieve the device then this option will remotely erases all your information from the iPhone.

Moreover, when your iPhone shuts down it'll send you the last location to notify you.
