Its not very useless, the remote wipe capability is quite important imo. This will be the first thing it do should i realize my iphone is missing.

Find My iPhone is basically useless. All it tells you is in which part of a city/town it is located. Oh wow! How about telling me whether it's under my bed or in the fridge?

It does do this. It lets you send a message to the phone that forces it to play a sound even when it's on silent mode. I've used this feature a couple of times.

Why? The first thing I would do would be lock it. If a person steals your phone, more than likely they just want the actual device. Once a person steals the phone, all they have to do is disable location services then Find My iPhone is rendered useless. My steps would be: Lock it, set a password, not have a remote wipe on 10 incorrect because that just gives them my phone, then track down the phone.

Is there any way to remotely activate MobileMe if you have the Serial Number? My daughter had her iPod stolen at school. We are new Apple product users and had just learned about this feature, but unfortunately had not turned it on yet. We live in a very small rural community, so knowing a general idea of where it is located would be more than enough to know who took it.

Thanks

TR
