You think Apple will implement something like this for Macs. What would they need to add to Macs for this to be possible?
 
They would need to add a GPS chip, or mobile broadband.

It wouldn't work because at least a part of your laptop that contains the Find My Mac software and the GPS chip would have to be active all the time, which would KILL the battery. Plus, how many people actually leave their £1500 MacBook Pro lying round??

How many people would actually leave their £500 iPhone lying around? It's not like it's done on purpose. Like you said battery life could be an issue but it would be helpful if your mac were to be stolen.

A phone is a lot more of a general use item for most people. For example, my iPhone goes with me virtually everywhere, whereas my MacBook only goes certain places with me. I'm just saying that i think its less likely someone would lose their Laptop than their mobile phone.
