So I got my new M2 MacBook Air and updated it to macOS 12.5. It is logged in to iCloud, Find My is active, location services are active, all is good.

However, on my iPhone in Find My I cannot enable "Notify when left behind" on the MBA (although I see its position on the map). The option is simply not there, while it appears normally on my M1 MacBook Pro. The configurations are identical.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Any idea how to fix it?

Here are a couple of things that I'd try.

First, disable "Notify when left behind" on the M1 MBP and then see if you can enable it on the M2 MBA. This would indicate that there's a limit to the number or types of devices that you can enable tracking for.

Next, I would try rebooting the iPhone.

If that doesn't work, you could try signing out of iCloud on the iPhone and then re-logging back in. It's kind of a pain, but I've seen it correct iCloud issues in the past.

If all else fails, give Apple Support a call. They should be able to figure something out.

Hmm...I just went and checked FindMy on my iPhone and there is no option there to "Notify when left behind" for my M2 MBA also. So, I started checking all of my MacBooks (don't ask) and a couple of them did have the option, but most of them didn't. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to which had the option and which did not and, in any case, they were all disabled anyway as I've not used the feature.

So, I think we're back to contacting Apple about this one.

It's not showing up for mine, either. I tried turning FindMy off and back on for the MBA and it didn't make any difference.
