Hey there,

I have 4 SSD drives in my Mac Pro and one drive just started to ask for a password every time I want to create a new folder. The 3 other drives are just fine. I did not change any hardware or software and the 4 drives share all the same permissions:

- system = Read & Write
- wheel = Read & Write
- everyone = Read only

Since repairing permissions is no longer part of Disk Utility I don't know what to do. I'm on macOS 10.14.6

What I'd suggest:

Click ONE time on that drive's icon in the finder to select it.
Then, open "get info" (command-i)
At the bottom of the get info window, click the lock and enter your password
Put a check into "ignore ownership on this volume" (sharing & permissions)
Close get info.

Does doing this make any difference?

Yes, now I can create folders again without having to enter my password. Great!

But does this solution mean, that I don't have the ownership of my own hard drive? Is there a way to get it back and not have to check this little box?

This suggest to me that the disk is (or has been) a Time Machine destination. If it is currently a TM destination you should not modify the permissions or enable "ignore ownership".

There is nothing wrong with adding folders to a TM disk, but it is certainly not encouraged. If you want to create many folders, you could create just a single top level folder, make sure you have r/w and create other folders within it.

The disk is no TM destination and has never been one. Would it help to format the drive?
