Finder Beta 5 Is AI Slop and a Cop Car Light Show

Jesus Christ, this cop car light show in Finder is driving me insane. What the **** is this?

I hover over the toolbar, and the entire toolbar lights up and stays highlighted. Then I hover over the buttons, and they light up too. Meanwhile, the vertical dividers between the buttons keep disappearing and popping up in random places.

What the ****, Apple? Why does this need so much visual feedback? All you need to do is show the user that a button is responding. Why are you turning the whole interface into a ****ing disco? What is this kaleidoscope of hover states?

This kind of interface could only have been made by a junior designer who learned what interface design was yesterday. Jesus ****ing Christ, have you people completely lost your minds?

Why do the buttons jump around so much when I click them? Why is everything bouncing and flashing? Why did you hand this job to a junior designer with Fable 5?

In light mode, you literally cannot see the edges of the toolbar buttons in Finder. Instead of fixing that problem, you added a thousand completely useless hover states and visual indicators. This is ****ing AI slop.

Are you ****ing blind, or do you seriously not see that the top and bottom borders of your buttons blend into the ****ing background?

macOS accessibility options have always made the interface look terrible.

If we enable Reduce Transparency, the toolbars and windows get harsh, glaring borders.

If we enable Show Borders, those already glaring borders become far too prominent and contrasty.

And if we enable Increase Contrast, the entire system interface becomes incredibly ugly and painful to look at.

Unfortunately, MacOS is a toy for kids now. Everything sparkles and shines like a f…ing Christmas tree. Apple has forgotten what a computer is for. Just downgrade to Sequoia. Save yourself the stress.

Starting from beta 4 ther are navigation and selection bugs in the Finder especially in Column view. It was worse in beta 4 but some issues remain. This is not AI slop though. This is just because someone is fiddling around and they are leaving the bug fixing until later builds. AI slop looks very different from this.

But you don’t need to use them all. My macOS config and settings overall have barely changed since Snow Leopard.

I think on Golden Gate Apple actually improved the Show Borders option greatly (as shown on your 2nd screenshot). I keep it always enabled on Golden Gate. I think Apple finally found a perfect balance between showing the borders AND not making them look annoying. In fact, to my taste, Golden Gate with Show Borders on is the best looking system in the last like 26 years. (While if the Show Borders option is disabled, Golden Gate turns into one of the worst with its liquid-goo kitsch.) I do know that all these perceptions are personal.

good catch about vertical dividers. since i never click these buttons manually i never noticed this. it's the same on Tahoe actually.

though should not release lesser or lousy software from the previous release.

Yup. Apple once knew not to do that. I remember a video where this was the exact thing Scott Forstall complained about when he talked about the competition. Take a look at the Music app's MiniPlayer on Tahoe for one of the worst offenders in that regard. Honestly just awful with absolutely no sense of calm or stability about it.

It's definitely a downgrade from Sequoia. However, the key word is "beta". It can still change.

And to those of you who really dislike it: report it to Apple. Why would they change anything if they get no feedback?
