Does Finder cache thumbnails of pictures, movie frames?

If yes, where is the cache located?

If I recall it does. There is a folder in your home folder called Library inside there is a folder called caches if that data is cached it probably is in there. Just out of curiosity why?

Cheers

Security reasons, understanding how it works.

Another quick question:

Does Finder delete cached thumbnails after I delete relevant image/video files?

Probably not immediately, my guess would be that (assuming I am correct about the location of the cache) the only way to completely get rid of the file would be a combination of secure deleting the file itself and the associated cache files. (This is going to be a global effect for the user because OS X doesn't cache previews individually.)

Cheers

images and videos are cached by quick look. which you will find in ~Library/caches/
and as security guros alike I take it you have filevault enabled? - and thus is fine :)

FileVault can protect you only when you accidentally lose your laptop.

It won't protect from your company's helpdesk or from focused attention of 3rd party. :)

there's a two step solution to that.

a) don't do stuff your not supposed to on a company computer.
b) buy your own computer.

no really you could just remove the software?

I am asking about caching by Finder only.

It's at the root:

/private/var/folders/{short-string}/{long-string}/{shorter-string}/com.apple.QuickLook.thumbnailcache

The {strings} are likely variable on a per computer basis so they will be different from OS X to OS X.
